Shake up of RSC regions

2022-02-22

The DfE has announced a shake up of the areas covered by the regional schools commissioners, with the current “North” region appearing to be split into North East and North West.  This may lead to Cumbria having a new regional schools commissioner, although that is yet to be confirmed.

This announcement was made alongside recommendations arising out of a review of the ESFA conducted by Sir David Bell.  The review recognises that the functions carried out by the ESFA and the DfE currently overlap, causing confusion.  The recommendations seek to provide a degree of clarity and separation including all post 16 skills policy and implementation moving from ESFA to DfE.
